Cycle the Yorkshire Wolds

The Tour de Yorkshire at Tibthorpe near Driffield

Yorkshire has always been a great place for cycling and since hosting the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014 has gained a reputation as a world class cycling destination. Since then the Tour de Yorkshire has become an annual event each Spring when the ubiquitous blue and yellow themed bicycles decorate many towns and villages along the route.  Yorkshire  will also be hosting the 2019 UCI Road World Championships next September, one of the most prestigious events on the professional cycling calendar.

Aside from the major cycling sportives, there are many well signposted routes for cyclists, along quiet lanes and gentle rolling countryside with a few challenging hill climbs for the more adventurous, providing an ideal way to explore the Wolds, picturesque villages, market towns and the wonderful Yorkshire coastline.

The Yorkshire Wolds offers an array of cycling routes for everyone to enjoy, whether you are looking for a leisurely cycling holiday mixed with a bit of sightseeing, or the challenge of a long distance route such as the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route and the Way of the Roses, both of which pass through our local town of Driffield and within a couple of miles of our cottages in Garton on the Wolds. See Route 1 on the map below.

The Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route is a 146 mile circular route around the Yorkshire Wolds passing through 47 East Riding towns and villages including Driffield. The route is well served with rail links at Driffield, Beverley, Malton and Bridlington.
